People come to therapy for many different reasons.
Maybe life has reached a boiling point, and you need extra support to make it through.
Or you need to talk through some things you need to work out.
It could be that you may want to improve your communication skills or relationships.
Whatever’s brought you here, having a neutral, kind, and skilled person to talk to will help you transform and grow, which is what individual therapy is all about.
Here’s what we’ll do in individual therapy.
We’ll discuss your history, current circumstances, and what you want to get out of therapy. We’ll then create a custom treatment plan that keeps you on track as you move toward your goals. The plan depends on your input. It’s more of a brainstorming session with expert guidance than a student-teacher scenario. I don’t like anyone telling me what to do, and I bet you don’t either!
Once we create your treatment plan, we will advance at your pace. As we work toward your goals, I’ll employ tried-and-true therapy techniques. My techniques will vary according to who you are, what you need, and what you respond to.
I often use a combination of EMDR and IFS (Internal Family Systems). I also draw heavily on psychodynamic theory and ISTDP (intensive short-term psychodynamic psychotherapy), so we will explore defense mechanisms, personality structure, and unconscious conflicts. Without getting too technical – the work we do will be deep!
But your perception will be that we’re having a respectful, uplifting interaction that moves you in and through different parts of yourself constructively.
